Maximilian Voloshin is a poet and artist, whose diverse quests can be considered under the sign of gravitation towards a certain aesthetic theosophy that synthesizes various types of art. Many researchers of the life and work of the Russian poet noted the picturesque expressiveness and brilliance of his poetry (I.T.Kupriyanov, V.P. Kupchenko, V.B.Zharkikh, S.M. Pinaev, N.G. Arefieva, V. V. Chagina, Hon Ki-Sun and many others).
Cimmeria is a special Voloshin’s theme, in the interpretation of which the originality of his artistic nature was most clearly manifested, and Koktebel is a kind of materialization of the poet's creative spirit.
Koktebel was revealed to Voloshin in the spring of 1907, when the wormwood highlands and plains scorched by the sun, the sea and the harsh nakedness of the earth - became deeply in tune with the poet's deep personal experiences. Koktebel motifs enriched Voloshin's poetry with a purely personal content: it is in Cimmerian poems that the poet achieves an amazing correspondence between accurate descriptions of what is revealed to the eye and the landscape of the soul. For Voloshin, Koktebel becomes a symbolic image of the universe, in which all the «faces of the earth», traces of its history and culture are combined.
The scientific task of the article is to study Koktebel, captured in the poet's poems, which in itself seems to be a significant stage in the creative path of Maximilian Voloshin.
The poet strove to show in the image of Cimmeria «the vastness of all centuries and countries, legends, stories and beliefs». He, a seeker of the «homeland of the spirit», did not manage to visit the East – India, China, Japan. Therefore, he found the «true homeland of the spirit» in the east of Crimea.
Each element of the artistic system (metaphor, comparison, artistic detail, lyrical hero, etc.) can act as a symbol. M. Voloshin gives preference to landscape as a self-sufficient element. Voloshin's landscape expresses the concept of artistic generalization, contains the author's conscious attitude towards the symbolic meaning of what is depicted and, in general, is a form of expression of artistic space.
