The article traces the tradition of laughter of Arzamas culture in A.S. Pushkin’s novel «Eugene Onegin». The consideration of the problems of the Arzamas language specificity is based on the
examples of verse epigrams of D.V.Dashkov and P.N.Vyazemskiy. It is emphasized that the literary
society of «Arzamas» became the school of formation of new creative principles for A.S.Pushkin,
especially in the field of comic speech. The material of the third chapter of «Eugene Onegin» proves that the author used Arzamasian language techniques for the creation of pun: anthroponyms,
polysemantic words, homonyms and homophones. The quibble of the literary text was used to creative a comic effect, as well as the illusion of a live conversation, «chatter», leading to A.S.Pushkin’s free form of a verse novel.
