The article explored aspects of Romania’s entry into the First World War and the creation of
the Romanian Front in 1916. The author analyzed the state of the Romanian army and the strategic
plans put forward by Romania. The main aspects of preparation for the campaigns of 1916-1917 are
revealed. On the Romanian front, their main events are described and the reasons for the failures of
the Entente forces in this area are identified.
The brilliant successes achieved during the Brusilov breakthrough were completely leveled by
the defeat of the Romanian army. As a result of these events, Bessarabia became the front-line zone,
the immediate rear of the Romanian Front and the region that hosted the Romanian refugees
(according to some reports, with the remnants of the army from the Romanian capital retreated to
1.5 million evacuees and refugees
As a result of the Brusilov breakthrough in 1916, Romania entered the war on the side of the
Entente. For the help of the Romanians the corps of General O. Zayonchkovsky was sent. From that
moment on, the function of supplying all Russian troops beyond the Danube was placed on
Bessarabia Province. As a result of the military failures of 1916-1917, most of Romania was
occupied, and Bessarabia was threatened by the capture of the troops of the Central Powers. The
huge forces of the Russian Army, which formed the largest Romanian front at that time, were seized
there. The Bessarabia region had to assume the role of providing all the Russian and Romanian
troops, as well as the masses of Romanian refugees who came here.
